the excitement is building!

chicago auto show

sarah’s dad got us tickets to the chicago auto show this weekend.

how cool is that???

i’m really hopin’ for some news on a jeep truck and some sweet concept vehicles (even though they’re supposedly only showcasing current production and the concept jeep renegade).  and it looks like they’re focusing on the past a lot from the website.

i’m pretty excited about the aftermarket area, too.  hopefully it’s not full of rice-burning import parts and 2007 and newer jeeps.

but just look how big the jeep section is!  this is gonna be sweet!

also enticing…  the new chevy corvette ZR1, toyota fj cruiser, gmc top kick, hummer hx, hummer h3t, and the super-bowl endorsed audi r8.

provided they allow cameras and we don’t forget ours (with fresh batteries), you can see what we’ll be viewing right here next week sometime.

stay tuned…

anybody else going???

another wrangler review

truck trend had more bad to say about the new wrangler than good.

i think those guys have gone soft test driving all these cadillac-like monster trucks.

it’s a jeep…  of course it’s going to be a little rough around the edges.

but it works.  that’s what makes it so appealing.

switching gears

i’ve decided this blog has become more about me and less about my passion for jeeps.

i’ve got two passions in life other than my rockin’ hot wife and family.

they are, in no particular order:

a) off-roading and the jeep community

2) marketing and communications in the church, specifically web design and graphic design.

so instead of closing one blog on one passion to start another, i’m doing both.

right now, is under construction, so check back soon and (hopefully) it will be updated.

since i mentioned that this jeep blog was more about jeeping than myself, i should also mention the other blog will have a lot more personal stuff on it.

i found after starting this blog that i can’t talk about something i’m passionate about and not get personal.  so expect more of chapman on the new blog.

you’ve been warned!

SVO/WVO (that stands for straight/waste vegetable oil)

i was watching xtreme 4×4 today instead of doing homework and they were building up a suzuki samurai, getting it ready for the trail.

ian and jesse installed a greasecar vegetable oil kit on this zuk.  if you’ve never heard of greasecar, check out their website’s faq section.

two cool things pop out at me…

a) there’s a classified bar to the right that sells vehicles with the kits already installed and it’s the OWNERS (not greasecar) who is selling these vehicle.

2) there’s a second side bar showcasing owners’ rides.

…like this ’88 yj

i’ve got a spare gas engine laying around.  but i’m seriously considering selling it after seeing this to buy a spare diesel.  it’s an ingenus idea that dramatically reduces the amount of fossil fuel oil burnt.  the sammy that was built on xtreme only had a 3 gallon fuel tank!  (the vegetable oil tank was much larger.)

kudos, greasecar!

winter blues

i hate talking about the weather.  i do it all day long (i get to talk to people in hawaii and alaska on a daily basis and it seems everyone from either california or florida loves to boast of their numerically large temperatures).

but as much as i hate to talk about it, i love to complain about it (it’s what bloggers do best).

i’m seriously aching for warmer days and more sunlight.  i’m finally on a shift where the sun is still up when i get off work (7:30 AM-4:00 PM), but it’s not enough, dang it!  i need some rays, man!

plus, it’s just not easy to go wheeling in the winter.  i hate working on cars in cold weather and if i broke something on the trail and had to fix it in the dirt/snow, i’d hate my life and just complain more.

plus, it’s going to be below freezing most of this weekend and our geothermal unit is on the fritz.  thankfully an old friend from church back in my sunday school days is a heating/cooling business owner, but we thought we had it fixed tonight and the space heater warming my feet right now is proof we didn’t fix anything.

enough complaining.  i’m going to start looking forward to springtime.  …and easter.

want out?

my contract is up feb. 10, so this doesn’t help me much.

but for anyone wanting out of a verizon contract, check out will rodes’ blog post here.

family guy quote

i can’t explain how “freakin’ schweet” this truly is.

and they even chose the right color and played in the mud.

heaven, that’s what my own personal jesus would do for me in heaven.

uber compliment

a friend gave me the jeepest compliment of all this weekend.

it was probably because of my parking job.  or the entrance before the parking job…

at any rate, apparently he was listening to npr recently (side note, click here for a funny tangent and interesting lost nerdiness and a quip about people who listen to NPR.  no offense to people who talk about NPR.  i like it, too sometimes.) and heard click and clack’s famous talk show, car talk.

to make a long story short, a lady has having trouble with her convertible top.  so a jeep guy calls in and says that this is what jeepers live for.  there’s something wrong, so that means it’s time to diagnose it and then figure out a way to fix it.

it made me think…  who else carries spare parts in their car?  does anyone out there have more than just jumper cables and a candle in their trunk?  don’t you also have recovery straps and bungee cords and tools and spare rope and duct tape?

what happens when your windshield wiper suddenly gets the rubber stripped off?  my answer…  get the one out from behind the back seat, of course!

i don’t think this is normal for regular car owners…  am i right in assuming this?

also, if something breaks, or wears out or just plain needs replaced, this is when we have the perfect excuse to put one of the world’s largest aftermarket communities to work and do the “u” word.

“honey, we need new tires.  …and it’s already going to be $600 for 4 new tires, so why not spend $50 more and get BIGGER tires!?!?”

so, in the case of the leaky roof…

“honey, our soft top is leaking.  and it’s already $600 for a new soft top.  why not spend $20 more and get the soft top with the tinted windows?  and while we’re at it, we might as well  spend another $100 for the sunrider soft top with the flip back sun roof feature.”

this is why sometimes i don’t get homework done.  i’m either busy installing new stuff, or convincing sarah to use grocery money on jeep stuff.

eh…  eating is as much fun as jeeping.

and almost as necessary.

i’m not just a jeep geek

apparently i’m 71% general geek.
