labor day

sarah and i have been planning our one year anniversary coming up in september.

i’m pretty certain at this point we’ll be here doing this:

the best part… it was all my wife’s idea.

camping and jeeping.

man… my wife is awesome!

excuses, excuses

this blog has been empty for like two weeks now.

here’s why:

capella university

this week in astronomy has me writing 2 papers, taking one quiz, doing one 3-chapter review assignment, plus 2 regular class discussions (it’s all online, so class discussions are a big deal).

this week in project management has me making a WBS (work breakdown schedule) in visio (who has visio at home???  i’m lucky enough to have a windows machine that still runs in this house), writing a risk management plan, using ms project to do the chapter 4 exercise, plus 1 class discussion.

that doesn’t really account for the previous week where i didn’t post anything…  so i won’t try to make excuses for that week.

also, i sort of became obsessed with checking my blog stats.  it wasn’t neccesarily because i really wanted this blog to be “successful,” it was mainly out of boredom at work.  but still, anyone who checks blog stats multiple times a day needs to back off.  it was becoming more than just entertainment.

so, i’m sorry for bailing on anyone who was part of my best day ever (120 something hits.  but only because i used “sex” as a keyword) or anyone else who’s still around.

there might be another off-road adventure in indiana in the next couple weeks.  or maybe a roadtrip with my new awesome wifey sarah to WI to hang out with megan and keep the bad guys away while dave is rockin’ the world in africa.

which brings up a good point…  why are you reading a stupid blog about jeeps?   shouldn’t you be saving darfur or feeding the poor or cleaning a little kids’ wounds?

get off the computer and do something.

or stay on and donate.

did we really just do that?

sarah and i were asking ourselves that all day today.

we drove up and down hills that would be impossible to walk/run/leap/or otherwise traverse had it not been for our trusty jeep.

there was one instance of breakage, but i don’t care. it was a plastic part that i wanted to replace eventually anyway with a steel piece.

now watch this silly little video of what i’m talking about…

i don’t really know what we broke that on because there were so many times we heard something crunch when we dropped off a boulder or a rut or when we shifted sideways into a root sticking out, but i do know it broke a piece of steel tubing and ripped a hole in the sidestep.

good riddance, i say.

we found out what jeeps gone wild is. (make sure your speakers are off if you’re at work. music autoplays)

they were a really cool group of people that like jeeps. however, most had lift kits and that’s it. some didn’t even have that. they weren’t all that wild, and that’s what we were looking for. it was a fun time and nobody broke anything significant.

things got a little hairy at one point where our roll bar was resting on a tree and i needed some help from a spotter which i got from the president of jeeps gone wild. there was a new guy there taking pictures with some sort of cool DSLR but i didn’t get his e-mail address. if you’re out there, dude… contact me. you got cool pix of my jeep doing cool things and i think i saw a video camera, too. i just want proof that i actually went down that drop off.

there are pictures in the sidebar from my flickr account, but here are my top 3…

it feels like we did sooooo much more than we took pictures of, but you just can’t get out of your jeep while you’re crawling along creekbeds or up the side of a rocky hill to snap a photo.

we’re definitely going back, and i’ve definitely convinced sarah to get a four-wheeler. or rather, the four-wheelers spoke for themselves and sarah wants one now.

my wife is the coolest.

our jeep rocked.

we didn’t roll.

i have no idea what that means, but “jeeps gone wild” is the title of the event sarah and i are inadvertently going to next weekend.

their website is a little rough, but nonetheless, it gets the job done i guess. we’re going to the badlands off-road park in attica, in.

i’ve been there once before with my cousins on a camping trip, but we had four-wheelers and dirt bikes then. this time i guess will be a little different because the four-wheeling will be in our wrangler and i can have more passengers.

school starts up soon, so sarah and i wanted to take a road trip as a married couple before i have to get my nose back to that grindstone. we were kind of sick of flying after our honeymoon, so driving somewhere actually didn’t sound like a chore.

but listen how cool my wife is… we were originally going to stay at a bed and breakfast in galena, il for a weekend. then i thought it would be cool to go camping instead because we registered for a bunch of camping equipment, then i took it one step further and thought maybe we could go off-roading AND camping.

sarah’s response?

“yeah, that would be fun!”

we were actually going to go to the badlands on the one year anniversary of engagement, but man day prevailed. and so did holly’s graduation party. so we didn’t really feel like we missed out on any trail time since we had other cool things to do.

i should have checked this sooner, but they have an event going on at the badlands that saturday called “jeeps gone wild.

if you click that link, be prepared for ambiguity. all the information it gives is that the park is still open to the public.

i guess we’re the public, so i’ll bring back pictures of jeeps flashing the camera for t-shirts i guess.

they do make bikinis and bras for jeeps… now i don’t know what to think!
